Karolin Schnoor

Introducing London-based Germany illustrator Karolin Schnoor. I love the use of pattern and lines in her work. They're like beautiful wood-cut prints. Great use of colour, too.
Illustrated Greeting Card. Cut out the shapes to make your own Squirrel! Each card comes with an envelope and two split pins. Printed on recycled paper. Available on Karolin's Etsy store here.

There's an amazing new pastry shop in de Pijp: Poptasi – macaron shop! It's the first of it's kind in Amsterdam, hard to believe, huh? And the guys tell me they've been doing a roaring trade ever since opening on March 20th.
I've stolen a few pics off their site, as they were practically sold out when I was there!
Poptasi have a bunch on interesting flavours like: Bailey's, Chili Chocolate, Jasmine, Mandarin Szechuan, Sticky Date, and Salty Caramel.
Kinda dangerous for me as they're only a few doors down.
Poptasi Pastry: Gerard Doustraat 103, 1073 VS Amsterdam. Telephone: +31 (0)657 344 911
Open: Tuesday – Friday from 10am – 6pm. Saturday: 10am – 5pm.

Paper Stations

Japanese paper artist Terada Mokei has designed a beautiful series of 1:100 models of the NYC subway station. I saw these in the MoMA shop in SOHO, and was very tempted. Sheet size measures 104mm x 148mm and his available here for USD $20.

Church for Fleas

This has to be the most beautiful setting for a flea market: the church on Haarlemmerstraat. Mr E and I were all set, having had a great breakfast at Two for Joy.
Packed with lots of goodies, but a little bit too antique for me, or nothing I couldn't find at the Ij Hallen.
I found one little basket-weave purse but it's leather handles are worn so I need to see if I can have it restored. Fingerlings crossed.
After the market it was time to head out into the sun! Fantastic weather this weekend in the Amsterdam.

Two for Joy

Saturday was a glorious sunny sunny day in Amsterdam. MR E and I got up early to make the most of the say. First stop, Two for Joy coffee roasters for fab breakfast fuel.
Two for Joy is a delightful cafe open early – 8am! On Saturday and Sunday! IN HOLLAND! Unheard of. We had a bacon and egg toastie (delish) and my mocha (although the tide was low), was pretty good.
The cakes and other delicious goods looked amazing, but Mr E & I are still on our diet slimming down for The Big Day, so we did not partake in these goodies. Cut to September and it'll be a different story.
Don't be fooled by the empty-looking space, we were just there early.
There's a really cozy little nook at the back, with a few nice vintage couches and a stack of good mags; including English language Vogue, Monocle, and more. You get extra brownie points for this, Two for Joy!
Two for Joy coffee roasters:
Haarlemmerdijk 182, Amsterdam.
Open: Mon – Fri 7:30am – 7pm. Sat – Sunday 8am – 6pm.
Also: Frederiksplein 29, Amsterdam. Same opening times.

Bank on it, George

The Bank building in Rembrandtplein is not only the home of the new designer Starbucks, but also George Deli USA.With a lot of white marble and space (such a rare commodity in Amsterdam) it does feel like a little slice of New York. We even had good fast service!
Below, of course, is Marqt, the organic supermarket (no cash – pin only!). The eggs Benedict I had for lunch at George, €7.00.

Ulyana Stole my heart, again

That incredible Russian lady, Ulyana Sergeenko has done it again! Her debut collection had everyone in a fluster and it looks like she's no one-hit-wonder. Have a look at her beautiful spring collection. Love the retro-feminine style.
