Rural Spark

Today something a little more serious. This project is the initiative of a friend a dear friend, Pieter. Pieter told with a mix of enthusiasm and pride of the good work his mates at Rural Spark are doing in tackling the energy issues of rural India.
In their own words: "Rural Spark is an initiative of young pioneers who, through entrepreneurship and social design, realize future sustainable energy networks. We are a commercial organization as we are convinced that durable development requires continuous value creation and economical sustainability, cooperating with local partners and existing networks."
Pretty inspiring, when you also consider that these are indeed very young men, at the beginning of their careers, already out to make a difference in the world.
The best part is that you can easily support them in their endeavor. Simply go to this page and pledge your donation. How much to donate? Well, as a guide: any amount is welcome, but €25 gives an Indian household access to electricity and clean lighting. €500 includes all cost for enabling a local energy entrepreneur to start his business. Rural Spark has a crowd-sourcing goal of €75,000. That's a lot of money, and they're a long way off. So if you're looking for something worthy to donate to, this could the gift that keeps on giving. Please spread the word!
