Donostia

About an hour down the coast from Saint-Jean-de-Luz by train (note you need to switch at the French-Spanish boarder) is Donostia. Otherwise known as San Sebastián, where we visited just over a year ago. We were here for the day, and actually, after a slow start to the day then discovering the last train back home was in the early evening, we only ended up staying for lunch.
But what a lunch. We fluked a table short notice at Arzak. A special holiday baby-moon treat, it was for sure one of the highlights of the trip. We took the tasting menu and they were very very accommodating to my pregnancy dietary limitations.
The dishes were amazing. Little works of art on each plate. I won't bore you with a blow-by-blow encounter of the menu, but here are some highlights.
Appetizers served on squashed soft drink cans... Squid served on a glass plate – placed over the top of an ipad playing a video of a waves crashing onto the shore... And Edu's dessert, another glass plate placed over a plate with printed pansies for a beautiful garden-scape. Well worth the trip!
