Marcel Wanders Retrospective

Dutch and design go together like friets and mayo in Holland. They just know what works. One man who really gets it is Marcel Wanders. Marcel is a graduate of the Institute of the Arts Arnhem and the Design Academy Eindhoven, and has been designing pieces we all love for 25 years now and the Stedelijk is putting on a retrospective of his work to celebrate. Marcel came into the spotlight with his Knotted Chair, below. And continued to maintain momentum for a solid career thereafter.
Marcel Wanders is pretty prolific, and I love one of his newest project, Hotel Andaz on the Prinsengract in the city center. They do a fab Saturday brunch, by the way.
The exhibition is really comprehensive and it's amazing to see what one man has achieved in a career. Everyone will recognise a piece here; so prevalent are the pieces in everyday Dutch life. A great exhibition to take kids to, also. Lots of fun objects, as well as this giant rotating head above and below.
My favourite piece; Sky Garden Recessed light. I am lucky enough to have this in my living room and I could stare at it all night. It's just stunning.
