Deià, Mallorca

Just back from our first family vacation! Deciding where to go with our 5 month old baby on our first family vacation was tricky. Having headed to Barcelona to visit family and introduce Oscar to his extended Catalan family we decided upon Mallorca (or Majorca). A very zippy 45 minute flight from Barcelona and you're immediately transported to this little slice of paradise. The first few days we stayed in Deià. This gorgeous tiny town is nestled into the hillside on a terraced landscape by the coast. The day we arrived low cloud was hanging over the mountain tops. Just gorgeous.
We stayed in a proper old school hotel; Es Moli. We went in the low season, so there weren't too many other visitors and it was nice and relaxed. Didn't have too much pool-side time. My husband and I aren't very good at that sort of holiday. Must improve! Instead we explored neighbouring towns and the one day were were home-based it was raining. Ah well.
The town was a very short walk from the hotel. Beautiful old buildings and windy roads surrounded by orange, lemon, and olive trees. A nice walk to the top of the hill at the church grounds, glorious views to behold.
In the centre of the town is another hotel we visited for an afternoon cocktail; Belmond La Residencia. All rather civilized. Loved it.
One other feature of Es Moli is that they have a costal terrace. A shuttle bus courtesy of the hotel will take you on a bit of a hair-raising 15 minute drive to the coast where you can set up your station for the day. Nice. But not for us with the babe. Lovely to see though.
