Sakura Matsuri

Spring in Brooklyn! On the weekend Edu, the grub, and I headed to the Sakura Matsuri festival at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. I'd been told by friends it was not to be missed and I'm glad we went; it was beautiful. The Japanese Garden's were in full bloom, but I think the esplanade where there are a lot of cherry blossom trees were already spent. Weather was gorgeous, crowds were out in force, and there was a lovely atmosphere in the air. We wandered about with Oscar, listened to traditional Japanese drumming, took in the fantastical outfits of the cosplay kids (some kinda lame, but that made it all the more amusing), and the beautiful Geisha ladies were fab. Next year I'll be more appropriately dressed! I'll be keeping a look out for a kimono :)
Another beautiful garden is the Magnolia Garden. Just exquisite. And they have yellow magnolias which I've never seen before.
This was my favourite couple of the day (above). Lovely lovely lovely.
And some crazy cosplay nerds. All in all a fab day. Though learnings for next year; bring own food (not sure if it's allowed, but lines were crazy long for food, food was pretty average, and it was cash only!). If you need the bathroom allow plenty of time to queue... And to jazz up my outfit a bit, which will be easier when there is no bump to cover.
